TORREMOLINOS

Snap this Lads!!
Evidence of settlement has been dated back 150,000 years with (neolithic) finds in caves and grottos. Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans and Arabs have all settled here in the past but it was not until the Arabic Muslim era that Torremolinos began to prosper.
Meaning "The Tower of the Mills", the town is named after the building on the cliff above El Bajondillo. Built for coastal defence during the 14th Century the Pimentel Tower also found itself defending the flour mills in the immediate area of which 15th century records suggest there were 17 or so powered by water. Today Torremolinos is a thriving tourist centre whose fortunes were rekindled in the late 50s and who some say then became the model for the rest of the Costa tourism industry here in Spain. Torremolinos is generally regarded as having 3 distinct areas...El Calvario ("the Old Town"), El Bajondillo and La Cariheula although now MonteMar (to the South) and PlayaMar, La Colina and Los Alamos (to the North) are very much a part of the modern municipality, being very heavily involved in the highly commercial Tourist Trade, yet it is still possible to buy fresh fish and seafood on the beach at La Carihuela by joining in an impromptu auction being run by a local fisherman, his "shop" his recently beached boat, and his customers crowded round its gunwhales to see what's lying inside.

.Wassa matter? It's easy!!
